Great for assisting in healing post-surgery, as well as other chronic conditions.
Many of my clients are women who have spent a long time caregiving and are looking to re-sync with their own needs. They often have chronic stress
Meaning making is important. We can reframe stresses and traumas we have endured and come to understand them differently. However, learning to feel okay with feeling calm is very often a significant piece of healing work. This builds our capacity to deal with the stress of life and, importantly, proves and demonstrates to us that we are capable of feeling (physically!) calm. Trauma healing often involves addressing a feeling of hypervigilance, a felt-sense of danger. Experiences which contrast this hypervigilant state give our nervous systems input that it can be okay to shift into a calmer gear.
Okay! There are a lot of bodyworkers who approach things this way. I have come up through bodywork education that explains things this way - very specific, anatomically-based techniques. All of this information is valuable and some of it can be effective. However, the magic of all of it is you. Your nervous system is doing the work. As much as I would love to, I cannot make your traps stop hurting. I cannot heal a hiatal hernia for you. I cannot flip a switch and make you feel less anxious at work. All of these are issues I work with clients on, all of them are issues my clients have had significant improvements with. We can work with your capacity and what is ready to shift. Sometimes this is mechanical and specifically anatomy based, sometimes this is holistic and system wide, sometimes this is energetic. In all cases, we are holding as a principle - How comfortable can we make progress?
Nope! Clients are always in charge of how we use the modality of touch. Nothing is more important than you being comfortable! There are times there might be clinical application to work on specific parts of the body, appropriate draping is always used and the client can always decide how to proceed.
Please know - no matter how you show up, I have seen it all before, and am not bothered in the slightest by unshaved legs, thicker stomachs, or thinning hair. If you have taken a shower today, we are ready to work.
It depends! Most often, we work more frequently as we start and then spread appointments out.
Monthly appointments are a good baseline to maintain and improve.
Do they want to receive bodywork? If so, then yes!
